35yoSeeking... a new year
Happy New Year! I decided to lay down a quick list of my hopes and dreams for this year before we’re in too deep. This early on, 2022 is still full of possibilities, the world is my oyster, and all that jazz!
Although I’m using a fairly structured “22 in ‘22” format, my largely abstract wording purposely leaves a lot of room for… flexibility, LOL. (Remember, we’re quickly approaching the second anniversary of this little global pandemic. Now is not the time to risk any loss of joy with daunting stretch goals.) Rather, this list contains mere suggestions for how I might use and focus my time and energy this year.
The truth is, I’ve never been a hard-and-fast resolutions person because I always think of the start of the SCHOOL year as the new year. Anything I launch into too intensely in January is guaranteed to crash and burn. As much as I love a fresh, new day planner, it will never change the fact that January is very cold and very dark.
So I kept ALL of this in mind as I crafted the following list of intentions (in no particular order) for 2022. If I make some progress on even a few items, I’ll consider the entire exercise a ‘win.’
Play the piano some
(Time to dig out my trusty keyboard and sheet music!)Pray more
Participate in at least one career professional development program
Brainstorm ideas to maximize my job satisfaction to the fullest
(I am so lucky to really, really enjoy my job!)Gain support or negotiate for any good ideas from #4
Perform in some way
(Singing, dancing, theatre, or all of the above!)Consume more than 25 books
(I feel compelled to use “consume” here because non-audiobook people like my brother get VERY riled up if you claim to have “read” an audiobook.)Use a beautiful planner for daily, handwritten “to-do” lists
(I ordered one today!)Take my multivitamin consistently
(Gummies, of course!)Spend lots of time with my fave little man (nephew and godson!)
(He is nine months old today and getting cuter every day!)Date as much as possible as safely as possible
(Whatever this means in 2022…)Exercise a few times a week
(Dance, yoga, walking, whatever!)Prioritize sleep
Drink water
Limit Netflix and other streaming devices
Complete my nightly routine BEFORE I get into bed
(This includes removing my contacts, washing my face, and brushing my teeth. I have a VERY bad habit of laying down before doing any of this and accidentally falling asleep.)Purge my ill-fitting or uncomfortable bras
(Looking VERY forward to this one being done!)Get my dryer venting serviced
(My third-floor condo requires professional help, plus I have an irrational fear of house fires.)Attend a gong sound bath
(This has been on my list for YEARS!)Get a professional facial
(I’ve NEVER had one!)Travel somewhere (anywhere)
(I have not left St. Louis since fall 2019, ack!)Take more pictures
